Well, I officially have no idea where the last month has gone. However, I do know I've been back to a very wintery UK and it is definitely officially Winter here, too. The accessories are out in full force - more of this to come soon - but there is no shortage of serious Winter Wear being seen on the Italian streets! Here are just a couple little sightings - today it's raining though so I shall be a)indoors and b) illustrating recent sightings, including aforementioned accessories. It's a little early for New Year's resolutions but I shall endeavour to be a more devoted blogger too!
A little note on techniques here; as part of my ongoing exploration of different methods of illustration, I thought I'd experiment with some collage. I've seen it done to great effect so frequently, and it's really good to mix up your normal style I think.

http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/fashion/carmen-a-life-in-fashion-at-the-fashion-space-gallery/2011/11/19/ Worth a look - lovely review accompanying this illustration of an exhibition of compelling images of a timeless beauty who has lived a fascinating life, Carmen dell'Orefice.

Here is a photo of my recent submission for an exhibition of art in matchboxes, for a Christmas open house over two weekends (26-27th November and 3-4 December), in Brighton. It's an interesting challenge and good to get thinking in 3 dimensions, as well exploring the nature of being able (or not!)to contain something in so small a space. I chose to make the "first in a series" with the title "Pocket Saudade" - the idea being that if you were missing something, in this case, The Sea, you might be able to open a small box and see the waves turning there. The other fictional boxes available would be The Sun and The Mountains. Enter The Clutter Open House Show http://www.facebook.com/pages/Polish-Pin/160467470635415

This is a straightforward illustration based on the latest collection, S/S 2012, from Eyglo: originally drawn for a "journalist" who didn't seem to understand the whole time/worklife balance/manners equation which comes with collaboration. sigh. Nevermind, it was a fun piece to do and I really like Eylgo's works http://eyglocollection.com/

well, I tried to update the post below, only to say it was being included by the awesome Illustration Rally as part of a spooky Halloween Rally http://illustrationrally.blogspot.com/ as well as being featured on Creature Mag's page http://www.creaturemag.com/ for Halloween. Top banana, as some say. But my blog couldn't apparently cope with the additional information, so I've had to add this - not exciting in itself as a post, but I highly recommend both sites as sources of endless inspiration.

Another piece for www.ameliasmagazine.com - loved doing this, loads of detail but weirdly blank with it. Martina Spetlova's eco-fashion was the inspiration and very inspiring it was, too!

Mo and I pass a school for hairdressers on our journey to his school every day. I passed these two (or four?) this morning.

Steve Jobs 1955-2011
My tribute this morning.
This illustration accompanies a review of the recent release Tales From The Barley Temple, by Rapunzel and Sedayne - see it in www.ameliasmagazine.com - it has a folk vibe and is perfect Autumn listening.

"Che vento, eh?!!" - random exclamation on a mildly breezy day from a passer-by. The classic response to this weather seems to be to layer on scarves, get the knee-length boots out etc. etc. They're all sweating by lunchtime I bet. I'm not normally an advocate of turning a collar up but this grey flannel blazer looked just right with a bright yellow bag and surprisingly un-groomed hair. Refreshing but practical: Piazza Garibaldi, 28th Settembre.
Autumn Bassanese fashion - warm but cool - it's still about 25degrees here on average from midday on so it's interesting to see how people "enjoy" early Autumn: Via O. Marinali, 27th Settembre.

I recently had the pleasure of illustrating this outfit for a fantastic review of Ecoluxe - seen here in www.ameliasmagazine.com/fashion/london-fashion-week-ss-2012-showroom-review-ecoluxe-london/2011/09/28/ - It's hard to describe how interesting Amelia's Magazine is, whether it's fashion, art, music or contemporary culture as a whole you follow it's well worth visiting regularly.
Those who know Mo will know a nap is a rare thing of beauty that deserves to be captured.

Massive umbrellas. Italians do not appreciate the folding umbrella: you can deduce by this that it doesn't rain that much here. Shopkeepers sometimes offer you an umbrella if it starts raining while you are out. I should show them some Mancunian i.d. They needn't worry about me.
This woman was walking her dog. Then it refused to go any further. She asked it, "Sei stanco?", which means, "are you tired?", and I guess it answered her sufficiently. This is how it looked it me as it was borne away. "Ha. Foolish humans."
